A FAMILY has told of their heartbreak after the sudden death of their popular 20-year-old son who was due to start university this week.
Faraz Shah was found dead by his mother at his home in the Pield Heath Road area of Hillingdon, at 4.30am last Wednesday (16).
The family was fasting for the Muslim festival, Ramadan, when followers do not eat or drink during daylight hours.
As they woke for a meal before sunrise, Rubina Shah discovered her son dead in his bedroom. Her husband, Shabbir Ali, ran to her aid after hearing her screams before calling for an ambulance, but paramedics pronounced Faraz dead at the scene. The cause of death is not yet known.
Faraz, a former pupil at Mellow Lane School in Hewens Lane, Hayes, was about to begin a degree in economics at Brunel University, in Kingston Lane, Uxbridge. He then intended to become a pilot.
Grieving father, Mr Shah, described his son as "one in a hundred thousand million." He said: "Faraz was like no other person his age. He never smoked, drank alcohol or took drugs.
"He was totally selfless and constantly gave up his time for others, especially the elderly, and he idolised his uncle, Harris Mustafa. Just hours before he died, he was at home helping his mother - he made it a priority to put other people first.
"He was always on a quest for knowledge and we loved watching the History and Discovery channels together. We are all so proud of him - he was so intelligent and showed a particular talent for science and technology.
"I feel like I have been ripped into two - I just wish it could have been me instead of him. There is nothing more heartbreaking than losing a child."
Faraz, who moved from Pakistan to the UK with his family in 2002, was buried at Cherry Lane Cemetery in Hayes last Friday (18), where more than 100 mourners crammed in to pay their final respects.
Aniqa Shah, 26, Faraz's older sister, said: "He had such a fantastic sense of humour and he loved comedy films, especially Borat. He was always smiling and I never saw him frown. He was very popular and had so many friends - I think about 80 people from school came to his funeral.
"My sister, Anum, and I will always remember him as our baby brother. He has left a hole in our lives that will never be filled."
An inquest into Faraz's death has been formerly opened and adjourned. Did you know Faraz? Post your tributes here.
