Hillingdon Hill woman completes charity skydive

A GRIEVING woman whose husband died after a three year battle with gastric cancer completed a daring skydive to raise awareness for the disease.

Rakhee Desoura, of Hillingdon Hill, Uxbridge, decided to do the challenge while husband Bharat was still alive, but he sadly passed away in September aged 37, before he could see his wife do the jump.

Mr Desoura, who ran a jewellers in Southall, was the father to three children, Anneka, Vinay, and Amba.

Mrs Desoura said: "My husband was diagnosed with gastric cancer after six months as doctors were not aware of his condition.

"For six months, my husband was treated for gas problems as it is very rare for a 34 year old to be suffering from gastric cancer.

"We were told by doctors that gastric cancer is common in men over 60. After seeking private medical help, we were told our worst nightmare.

"My husband recovered well after receiving chemotheropy and surgery to his stomach, but after two years, the cancer came back. Unfortunately he did not make it, he died on 12th September."

While coping with the loss, Mrs Desoura, had to carry on preparing for her skydive, which took place last weekend in Cambridge.

"I decided to raise funds for our local Macmillan Cancer Support and for Great Ormond Street Hospital by organising a charity parachute jump.

"He was meant to be here watching me do it, but he just did not make it."
Mrs Desoura managed to raise over £600. If you would like to pledge a donation, e-mail her on rdesoura@hotmail.com
