Ryefield Avenue supermarket plans back
CONTROVERSIAL plans for a supermarket to be built on an old pub site in Hillingdon have been resubmitted.
In August, plans were put forward to build a superstore in place of the former Oak Tree Pub, in Ryefield Avenue, Hillingdon, which currently lies derelict.
A campaign was launched against the plans by shopkeepers worried about the effect it would have on their trade, and residents in the community, who felt the site could be put to a better use, with parking also a concern..
In September the plans were thrown out on a technicality by councillors, who agreed at a planning meeting that the drawings did not match up with the requirements.
However, a new plan has now been submitted, for the supermarket, and like before, for flats above it.
Residents have already told of plans to fight the new planning application, and are believed to be gathering signatures to a petition.
Constance Evans, 88, chair of the Oak Farm Residents Association, said: "We could have something better there, the pub site would be ideal as a leisure facility, for the elderly during the day and for youngsters in the evenings.
"A supermarket would adversely affect our local shops, once they go, they won't come back, we have fantastic shops round here including a butchers and an excellent hardware store."

As a resident of the Oak Farm estate I am apposed to the submitted plans for the old Oak Tree public house. We have shopping and retail facilities in the local area for the residents on the estate. The shop owners have been apart of the community for many years and are trusted and an integral part of our community. A supermarket would inpact greatly on them all finacially and this in itself would destablise the closeness we all have. What is needed is leisure facilities. I am in favour of the Oak Tree once again becoming a public house with a restaurant attached for families to enjoy. A meeting place for the community bearing in mind growing families make up the vast
majority of residents. I have been in contact with the Witherspoon Group to see if they were interested in the site and have had a reply stating that they would into it.
i agree with everything mrs norton said
Whilst I agree in parts with the above, I do wonder if a new Supermarket my 'buck up' the ideas of the current shops, which are, in my view run down. I personally would like to see a Community Centre on the location, but again parking would probably prevent this either.
