ENGLAND failed to win the World Cup again- this time during an inter-primary school football tournament.

The day was held last Tuesday at Brunel University in Uxbridge, and was organised by PC Jon Walls, the campus police officer.

A total of 210 children from nine different primary schools were represented, which each school taking on the identity of a country.

HILLINGDON'S only school for autistic children is set to expand, after getting a helping hand from the owner of West Ham United.

David Sullivan, who used to own Birmingham City, owned the lease on the Yiewsley Grange site, and has agreed to lease it to Hillingdon Manor School.

A FORMER pub landlord has been fined over £16,000 for serious breaches of fire safety.

Bhupinder Singh Mann former landlord of The Star pub in Uxbridge Road Hillingdon admitted guilt of 16 contraventions and was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday.

He was prosecuted by the Fire Brigade after officers discovered strict fire safety rules at The Star pub were not being observed after it failed an inspection in 2008.

Three school students were given an insight into the working life of Tim Campbell when the former 'Apprentice' winner welcomed them to his offices.

The chance to spend time with Tim was part of a prize earned by the students in the business and enterprise category at the London Student Awards.

Jade Fox, Erin Patterson and Muno Adbulkadir won the award for creating a viral marketing campaign for their school, Swakeleys, in Clifton Gardens, Hillingdon, focusing on the use of social networks.

During their visit, they learned about the work of the Bright Ideas Trust, which Tim Campbell founded to provide informed advice and financial support to help young entrepreneurs aged 16 to 30, currently not in employment, education or training (NEET), or from socially excluded groups, turn their business ideas into reality.

THE Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra's Spring Concert will take place in just over a week.

The concert is in memory of Julien Gaillard, a former leader of the orchestra between 1985 and 1999 who recently died.

The event takes place on Saturday 27 February at 7.30pm at All Saints Church, in Ryefield Avenue, Hillingdon.

A SCHOOL in Hillingdon is bidding to have an extension for extra classrooms.

Bishopshalt School in Royal Lane has applied for a new two-storey building to house pupils.

The proposal is only a temporary one, as the school do not wish to commit to any permanent changes before the council's Building Schools for the 21st Century strategy is agreed.

The plans can be viewed at Uxbridge Library until March 3.

HILLINGDON Women's Centre has received a much needed makeover from a team of style experts.

The renovated centre, in Long Lane, Hillingdon has been completely refitted with new lighting, desks and carpets.

The donations came kindly from John Lewis department store, and a party was held last Friday, attended by the Mayor of Hillingdon Councillor Shirley Harper O'Neill.

Linda Bennett, founding member of the centre, said: "The party has been great, but it isn't enough to say how thankful we are to John Lewis for their help.

"I am so grateful, we have never had anything like this kind of help before."

TWO motorcyclists were rushed to hospital in separate accidents over the weekend.

One crash took place at 6.30pm on Friday on the Uxbridge Road at the junction with Boscombe Road, Hillingdon.

A motorcyclist was involved in a collision with a car, and a man in his 40s, was rushed to Charing Cross Hospital with a shoulder injury.

Paramedics also attended a separate accident on Saturday at 5.30pm at the junction connecting Woodstock Road and Swakeleys Road, Hillingdon.

Again, a motorcyclist and a car were involved in a collision, and paramedics attended.

A 32 year-old was taken to Hillingdon Hospital, in Pield Heath Road, suffering a leg injury.

peter-shackleton-371039473.jpgA MAN who survived a freak DIY accident when he sliced his neck open with an angle grinder has praised the doctors who saved his life.

Peter Shackleton, of Newcroft Close, Hillingdon, was horrifically injured while working in his conservatory.

The angle grinder broke and the blade ricocheted at high speed, hitting Mr Shackleton in the face and neck. The impact broke his jaw and cut deeply into his neck.

INJURIES were avoided in an early morning accident at Long Lane this morning.

A car lost control following a collision and crashed into the central reservation at 7.35am.

The two vehicles were involved were a white Ford Escort van and a black Ford Focus.

Recovery vehicles were sent to the scene, and police attended as a precaution to keep traffic flowing.
